Jerry Nelson started with humble beginnings. At age 18 , Jerry's father loaned him and his brother $5000 and told them 'Make it Work'. Jerry held true to his grass roots beginnings and 'made it work'. Jerry now operates one of the most successful oilfield equipment businesses in the world, Maverick International based out of Beaumont, TX. Over the years, Jerry has had many other thriving businesses to include Jerry's Hill Country Restaurant in Beaumont, TX and Elise's Playhouse in Winnie, TX , and the Kentucky Mavericks Professional Basketball franchise, which was located in Owensboro, KY. But, when asked which business he is most proud of, with a chuckle and a grin , he will always say, 'Frontier Rodeo Co'.
Frontier Rodeo Co started in the early 90's with only a few bucking horses and bulls and a small plot of land and one livestock rig. In the 20 years since Frontier's start, it has become one of the most successful rodeo companies in the world. Frontier Rodeo has been awarded the PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year award and the PRCA Remuda Award. These awards are awarded to rodeo companies who demonstrate the highest quality, consistency and compassion for the business. Frontier Rodeo Company's breeding program has proven to produce some of the Top bucking livestock in the country winning not one, not two, but seven PRCA World Championships for Bucking Stock of the Year. The infamous Medicine Woman , 4-Time PRCA Saddle Bronc of the Year along with her pasture mates, Full Baggage and Maple Leaf have made Frontier Rodeo Co a household name in the rodeo industry. Medicine Woman and the other 300 head of livestock enjoys lush green pastures on the 10,000 acre Frontier Ranch in Freedom, OK . Frontier Rodeo Co now produces some of the largest events in the country to include 'The American' in the Dallas Cowboy AT&T Stadium, Cody, WY, Arcadia , FL and many many more.
While Nelson has enjoyed much success in his many entrepreneurial endeavors, he is quick to tell you that his greatest accomplishment is his family. Jerry and his wife Beverly of over 40 years, have two children Candace and Jerry III and four grandchildren.
Still just as industrious as yesteryear, he enjoys 12 to 14 hour workdays at Maverick International, and credits his grandmother, his mother, and his father as the most influential people in his life. He would most like to be remembered as someone who helped those in need, a man who strived for the impossible, and a man of his word.
